Ronald Seibold, 41, and his wife Barbara Seibold, 33, drove their Chevrolet Blazer from Olympia, Washington, to see the mountain with Barbara’s children, Kevin Morris, 7, and Michelle Morris, 9. Ron was an engineer at the Department of Transportation and president of the Olympia branch of the Mountaineers. Barbara was a teacher’s aide at Olympia High School. Located about 3 miles northwest of Coldwater I and 11 miles northwest of the volcano, they drove for a mile and took several photographs of the blast cloud before it overtook them. The entire family died of ash asphyxiation.
